A few historical notes
Limone sul Garda developed economically during the first half of the 15th century under the domination of the Republic of Venice. The main activities of the village were related to the cultivation of olive trees and fishing but under the rule of the Serenissima it began to devote itself to the construction of lemon houses.
The lemon houses were greenhouses built for the production of lemons and oranges, so the town began to export its products all over Europe. With the arrival of the First World War, the town stopped exporting and therefore suffered a blow from an economic point of view that made it go back to its ancient activities.
In the 1930s, the construction of a road, the Gardesana Occidentale, gave Limone a new economic boost. Limone is one of the tourist destinations of northern Europe thanks to its mild climate throughout the year and especially in the winter months.
On a green holiday in Limone
Limone has received awards and certifications as an eco-friendly resort. It is a municipality that stands out for its commitment to separate waste collection, sustainable mobility, water supply points and columns for electric recharges.
Limone sul Garda boasts the Fiorito Municipality Award which recognizes the great respect that the town has towards nature. Improving daily and engaging in the beautification of the surrounding nature are very clear concepts in the town of Limone.
The beautification of public spaces thus becomes a collective matter, a great example of respect, care and a green spirit!
The means of transport par excellence in Limone is the bicycle. In 2018 the first section of the cycle / pedestrian path that connects Limone sul Garda and Riva del Garda was inaugurated.
The cycle path starts from the historic center of Limone, reaches and runs alongside the lemon groves and then reaches the stretch where it is suspended over the water. The most evocative stretch reaches the border between the Lombardy and Trentino regions. It is 2.5 km of nature and unique sensory experiences.
The route is truly suitable for everyone: sportsmen, families, young and old. Along the track there are fountains with water, public services and low environmental impact lighting.
